Marco and the Enchanted Castle
A tale created with Taleomatic
Knight Marco stood at the gate of a great castle. The castle had tall towers with flags that waved in the breeze. The stones sparkled in the moonlight like they were covered in tiny diamonds. Marco held his wooden sword tight and took a deep breath. He was a brave knight, and brave knights always step forward.
Marco pushed open the heavy door and walked inside. The castle was full of magic! Candles floated in the air without anyone holding them. Paintings on the walls blinked and smiled at him. A carpet rolled itself out under his feet, like it was saying "this way, please." Marco laughed. This was the most amazing place he had ever seen.
Then Marco heard a small sound. It was coming from behind a big golden curtain. He pulled the curtain back and found a little green dragon sitting in the corner. The dragon had tiny purple wings and big orange eyes full of tears. "Don't be scared," Marco said softly. "I'm Marco. What's your name?" The little dragon sniffled. "I'm Sparks," the dragon said in a tiny voice.
"There's something in the tower," Sparks whispered, pointing up with a shaky claw. "I hear strange noises at night. Bumps and whooshes and jingly sounds. I'm too scared to go look." Sparks hid behind his little wings. Marco looked up at the dark stairway that wound up to the tower.
Marco felt his tummy do a flip. The stairs were dark and the noises sounded spooky. Part of him wanted to hide too. But then he looked at little Sparks, shaking and scared, and Marco knew what he had to do. "Being brave doesn't mean you're not scared," Marco told Sparks. "It means you go anyway."
Marco held out his hand. "Come with me," he said. "We'll be brave together." Sparks looked at Marco's hand for a long moment. Then the little dragon reached out a tiny claw and held on tight. Together, step by step, they climbed the winding staircase. Their shadows danced on the walls in the candlelight.
At the top of the tower, they found a round room full of twinkling lights. And there, floating in the middle of the room, was a tiny fairy with silver hair and sparkling wings. She was juggling little bells — that was the jingly sound! When she saw them, she clapped her hands. "Oh, wonderful! Visitors! I'm the Fairy Godparent of this castle. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me!"
The Fairy Godparent sprinkled silver dust over Marco and Sparks. The whole tower filled with soft golden light. "You were both so brave," she said with a warm smile. Sparks puffed a tiny happy flame, and his tears were all gone. Marco sat down on a big velvet cushion. Sparks curled up next to him, warm as a little furnace. The Fairy Godparent hummed a gentle lullaby, and the bells chimed softly. Marco smiled, feeling warm and proud, and slowly, sweetly, drifted off to sleep.
